Atascocita Hardwood Flooring puts down, sands and fixes real wood floors for homes between FM 1960 and the shores of Lake Houston. Expect roughly $5–$16 per square foot installed, a line-by-line written quote, and boards that rest inside your house for 3–5 days before we fasten one. Engineered planks for slab homes, solid oak and hickory, walnut, even exotics: we carry all of it.
01
Every estimate splits out material, labor, tear-out and subfloor work, so you can compare us line for line with anyone else. Larger projects can be financed or paid in stages as the work hits milestones.
02
Nearly every house here sits on a concrete slab, and the air off Lake Houston stays damp for much of the year. We moisture-test the slab, fix anything reading above 12%, and let your wood acclimate before it goes down.
03
We bring boards to your kitchen table. Seeing a stain next to your cabinets and under your windows beats any showroom, and it gives you something concrete to show your HOA's architectural committee.

Full-thickness ¾-inch boards in oak, hickory, maple, walnut or cherry. Solid wood can be sanded again and again, so a well-kept floor can outlast the mortgage. Best over a wood subfloor or with the right glue system on a dry slab.

A genuine hardwood top layer (2–6mm) bonded to a cross-ply core, in widths up to 7.5 inches. It moves far less with humidity, which is why we recommend it for most slab houses in 77346 and 77396.

We sand through progressively finer grits, apply a new stain if you want a color change, and finish with polyurethane in the sheen you choose. Cheaper than replacement whenever the boards are still sound.

Dog claw tracks, dropped-pan dents, boards that click or lift. We fix the cause, re-fasten what's loose and blend new boards into old.

Cupped boards by the patio door, a slow dishwasher leak, or water that came in during a storm. We pull the damaged section, dry and test what is underneath, then lace in matching boards and finish.
Carpeted stairs converted to oak treads, or new treads and risers to match a fresh floor. Each step is measured and cut individually.

Pattern floors, borders and inlays for entries, dining rooms and studies. Hand-cut work, priced clearly up front.
Tile, carpet, laminate or worn-out wood comes up and leaves with us. We grind high spots, fill low ones and check moisture before anything new goes down.

Prefinished planks arrive sealed, so you can walk on them the same day. Site-finished floors are sanded and coated in your home for a flat, seam-free surface and any custom color.

The 3 Hardwoods Atascocita Families Ask For Most

White Oak
Takes almost any stain, hides everyday wear and looks right in both the 1980s homes of Pinehurst and new builds in The Groves.

Maple
Tight, quiet grain and a pale, clean look. Best left natural or lightly tinted.

Hickory
Among the hardest domestic woods, with bold color swings. Great for big dogs and busy households.
Step 1 – Measure, Test and Choose
We measure each room, take moisture readings on the slab, and help you pick a species, width and finish. Your wood is ordered right away to acclimate.
Step 2 – Tear-Out and Subfloor Prep
Old flooring comes out and is hauled away. Low spots get leveled and any moisture issue is handled while the floor is open.
Step 3 – Install and Finish
Boards go down with staggered seams and a gap at the walls, then trim, thresholds and your finish.

Step 4 – Walkthrough and Care Plan
We clean up, walk every room with you, fix anything you point out, and leave a short care sheet.
A wood floor breathes a little like a sponge. Wet summer air makes it swell; months of AC pull it back. Living a few minutes from Lake Houston, Atascocita floors get a bigger dose of that swing than most, and the ground underneath adds its own movement.
Clay Soil Under the Slab
Expansive clay swells when wet and shrinks in a dry August. We check flatness before installing and choose glue and underlayment that tolerate a little movement.
Moisture Testing and Acclimation
Planks sit in your conditioned home for 3–5 days minimum. Readings above 12% on the slab or subfloor get handled first.
Cupping, Crowning and Seasonal Gaps
Cupped edges almost always mean moisture from below. Keep the house at 35–55% humidity and most gaps and cupping never happen.
Pets, Kids and West-Facing Sun
Matte or satin finishes on oak or hickory hide claw marks far better than gloss. Use rugs, felt pads and UV window film in sunny rooms.

Hurricane Harvey in 2017 showed how fast water can reach homes along the West Fork and Lake Houston, and smaller storms and plumbing leaks still soak floors every year. Acting in the first two days makes the difference between a repair and a full replacement.
Boards that cupped slightly may flatten as they dry and can often be sanded and refinished. Boards that buckled, blackened or separated usually need replacing. We'll take readings over several days and tell you which you're dealing with.
After a slab has been saturated and dried out, the clay underneath can keep shifting for a while. If doors start sticking or a floor develops a slope after flood work, get it checked before you lay new wood.
Example transformations showing the kind of work we do.
Most installed hardwood here falls between $5 and $16 per square foot, and the typical job lands close to $9. Here's what that range means for common room sizes:
Material per square foot, installation or refinishing labor, removal and disposal, and any leveling or repair. Financing is available on larger projects, with payments tied to milestones.
A workmanship warranty covers our install errors, such as gaps, squeaks or poor fit. Manufacturer coverage on the wood itself typically runs 10 years to lifetime. If a refinish misses the agreed spec, we come back and make it right at no charge. All terms go in your contract.
We install, refinish and repair hardwood floors across Atascocita and the communities around Lake Houston.

At $5–$16 a foot, about $7,500–$24,000 for material and labor, with most homes closer to the $13,500 mark (around $9 a foot). Engineered oak on a dry, flat slab sits near the low end. Exotics, patterns and heavy leveling push it up. We give a firm, itemized number after we measure.
Usually the best one. Its cross-layered core shrugs off humidity swings that would cup solid boards, and it glues straight to a properly tested slab. Solid hardwood can still work if your HVAC holds steady humidity all year.
Sometimes. Lightly cupped boards often flatten once the slab dries and can then be refinished. Buckled or blackened boards need replacing. We measure moisture over several days before recommending either.
Interior flooring generally doesn't need approval, but some associations have rules for condos or shared walls. Check your HOA documents. If they do want to see the material, we'll leave samples with you.
Plan for the 3–5 days your wood acclimates first. After that, a few rooms are often done in a couple of days; whole floors and site-finished jobs take longer. Your written quote includes a schedule.
If the boards are firmly attached and thick enough to sand, refinish. Surface scratches, dullness and sun fade are refinishing problems. Widespread water damage or boards that move underfoot may need repair or replacement first, and we'll tell you honestly which it is.
